I must have been hiding under a rock because I wish I knew about Amazon Fresh a long time ago. It would have saved me hours each week going to the grocery store to get everything for my healthy dinners and meal prep routine. I wanted to share with you my very first experience using the at home food delivery program from Amazon called Amazon Fresh, tell you about the process of signing up, what it costs, what groceries I purchased and what I thought about the delivery. I will preface by saying I was not sponsored or contacted to talk about this program, I literally noticed it when I was buying other items on Amazon and decided to give it a try. Here is a quick run down of the program, the cost, the delivery and what you can expect if you try it out!
What is Amazon Fresh?
Amazon Fresh is a grocery delivery service offered by Amazon. If you’ve ever said “I wish I could order my groceries online, have them sent to my doorstep and be able to have them arrive whenever I want” that is basically Amazon Fresh. I had never considered trying it until I noticed that every weekend I would go and do my big grocery shopping, but mid way through the week I was going to the store after work to pick up things I ran out of. It was so annoying to spend the time to shop on the weekend, only to find that I still had to stop in and get more groceries during the busy work week.
I saw a promo for a free 1 month trial of the program and opened up the Amazon app on my phone, used the top left section to open the drop down and clicked on “See All Programs”. I added items to my cart one by one, then set up a delivery time when I would be home, selected if I wanted to be present when they arrived or if it was okay to leave at my doorstep and then paid via my normal Amazon payment method….that was it!
How much does it cost?
The Amazon Fresh program is a subscription fee. You are charged each month $14.99 for the service. Any purchase over $50 gets free shipping. You can usually scheduled your delivery to arrive the next day, and sometimes if you get your order in early enough it can arrive that evening. Both times that I have ordered I was able to scheduled my delivery for 6-8am the next morning. This allows me to get my groceries, unpack them and then head to work. It is the most convenient thing ever!
What are my overall thoughts?
For those of you who just don’t have the time to spend going to the grocery store and going up and down all the aisles, Amazon Fresh is a huge time saver. I love that I can shop on the app as I think of things I have run out of, add them to my cart and then simply set up my delivery window. Your groceries will arrive in insulated bags that fit a ton of items. They make it very easy to carry your groceries inside and to keep cold items cold for awhile in case you aren’t home when they arrive. They pack them with dry ice, ice packs and also the bags are insulated. They wrap all your vegetables and meats in plastic bags and everything so far as shown up very fresh.
I have ordered two times now and both times were really seamless and easy. When they bring your order, you leave out your old tote bags at the door and they will take them and leave your new totes. You can choose if you want to be present when the order comes or if it’s okay to just leave them at the door. You can also leave instructions for Amazon, like “please call me when your driver arrives” or “please leave in the back of the house by the back door.” and they will always follow those instructions.
So far I have ordered the following items and have found all the items to be fresh, tasty and taste great: Grass fed organic beef
– Natural ground turkey
– Naked chicken brand (thighs, strips and breasts)
– Peppers, onions, asparagus, celery, and organic apples
– Frozen Whole Foods vegetables
– Chobani yogurts
– Organic half and half
– Some canned items like water chestnuts and olives
– Bragg’s liquid aminos
– Diced tomatoes
– McCormick Spices
The totes are a bit bulky, so make sure you have somewhere to store them in your home since you will have to hold onto them until your next order is scheduled. I just stack them up in my hallway or you can put them in a closet. It’s also nice they give you ice packs because I use those for my meal prep bag to take lunch to work in my 6 Pack Fitness Bag mini. I still like to do my one big trip on the weekend to either Trader Joe’s or Stop & Shop, but during the week Amazon Fresh is a god send. It saves me so much time and is great for just re ordering items from your past orders quickly. Also, now that they have acquired Whole Foods, you can get some great items at good prices from them through their partnership.
For those of you who have already been using the program – what are your thoughts? what are your favorite items you’ve purchased thus far?
