Product: Blue Apron Meal Delivery Kit – how good is it? Well, let’s just say that if you want to break out of routine, try something new it’s worth a try!

Price: $59.99 for three meals serving two people each

Who it’s good for: Those wanting to do a fun activity at home together/cooking, for someone with a busy schedule who just want to arrive home and be told what to use/make, someone who likes to cook but wants new food/spice/style inspiration

Many of you who follow my blog and on social media know that I am an avid “meal prepper.” I spend every weekend doing my Sunday Meal Prep and planning out my meals, thoughtfully and carefully. While I am a control freak about doing this, I also do find that during the week I am just so busy with my 9-5 job, managing to fit in my work outs, care for my dog and husband that some nights I just don’t want to think about what to cook for dinner. That’s why when the folk sat SheSavvy Influencer Network reached out and asked if I would be interested in giving www.BlueApron.com a test drive in the kitchen I said “sign me up!”

I wanted to share with you what the box looks like when it arrives, but since my box came before I got home my husband took everything out and put it in the fridge for me so it wouldn’t go bad. I will say that the delivery comes in a box that has insulation to keep everything cold, fresh and ready for you when you do get home. Thankfully I have a hubby who was being very helpful today 🙂

Food is better when you start from scratch

This is the slogan that Blue Apron shares on the homepage of their website. I truly believe that it’s important to know exactly what is going into your food; whether you meal prep or do a food delivery kit like theirs. I want to know everything that is going in my meals; from the oils, to spices, to seasonings. I always want to know what my food is being cooked with so the fact that Blue Apron gives you all of the ingredients for you to make the meals, from start to finish, including the fix ins and spices is fantastic!

Ordering your meals online is pretty easy to do. I was able to select the dish I was most interest in making, set up my delivery time and then when I returned home from work it was waiting for me at my door. They even pack your food up with insulation so that it won’t go bad while you are away from home. My box arrived while I was at work, so my husband picked it up for me and had all the items out for me when I got home so we could cook.

I decided to make the dinner . This came with colorful vegetables, spices and amazing quality beef. Plus, recipe cards, how-to videos and the story behind their ingredients. I have to admit I am not one to follow recipes, so this was a bit out of my comfort zone. Most of my meal prepped recipes I use ingredients, spices and seasonings just by using my gut – so following instructions was a new thing for me but I liked it. I was whizzing around the kitchen making the rice, chopping the veggies, heating the skillet – it was a fun production for sure.

I decided to order the Sauteed Beef & Roasted Eggplant meal, which came with ingredients to make a spiced rice and cucumber salad.

Once I had all my ingredients out and my mixing bowls, skillet, baking pan, etc I was ready to get cooking. I would say that from start to finish this took me about an hour, a little longer probably because, as I mentioned, I normally don’t follow recipes so I was making sure to take my time measuring everything. I also had to factor in cutting up the eggplant, cucumber and onion as well. The meat was delicious and such great quality, I could really tell that this was a really good cut of meat and was very impressed with the flavor.

I thought the cucumber salad was great and not something I have every considered making before. The flavor with the mint was very good and I can certainly find new ways to make salad with cucumbers in the future. The rice cooked nicely and the spices had a great aroma, my kitchen smelled amazing!

The only downfall: as someone who follows a more ketogenic, low carb diet almost all of the meals did have carbs. I would have preferred to select something that was aligned with certain diets like keto friendly or paleo friendly. That would be one piece of feedback that I would give.

If you tend to eat a ton of protein/meats: You won’t have left overs. The food is portioned out pretty conservatively, especially with the meats so you won’t have a lot left over. If you are a high protein eater like me and my husband you would likely want more meat and less carbs, so that was a bit of a challenge. I know that I would want to double up on the beef and nix the rice, but for people who are not eating tons of protein like we do, that shouldn’t be an issue. All the bags and items are labeled so it’s easy to know what you need and how much of it. I got two meals but did not make the other on this night to photograph. Tonight I was making the beef dish and the chicken I made the next day and it came delicious as well!

I think that overall if you want to open yourself up to testing new foods, cooking styles and flavors you should certainly try doing Blue Apron. I think it’s a fun activity to do as a date, with your entire family, maybe just one night with the kids or when you just want to take the guess work out of your dinner. I had a lot of fun doing this and it was surely worth the cost.
